IDTA at SPS 2025: The Asset Administration Shell as an enabler for interoperability, data exchange and value creation in industry
IDTA and partners demonstrate the concrete added value of a networked data ecosystem
The Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) is the first point of contact for all issues relating to standardised Digital Twins and brings together expertise and partners to promote the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) as a standard. At the trade fair for the automation industry, SPS – Smart Production Solutions, from 25 to 27 November 2025 in Nuremberg, IDTA will inform visitors about how the AAS enables structured and interoperable data exchange along the entire value chain. In Hall 5, Stand 358, IDTA, together with partners from the industry, will demonstrate how asset data is described and connected in a secure data space, which tools are already available that integrate different systems and standards, and how this creates a consistent, secure and connected data ecosystem.
At SPS, IDTA is presenting the Asset Data eXchange Hub (ADX Hub) for the first time, a centralised service that significantly facilitates the handling of AAS and the exchange of product-related data. The ADX Hub solves the problem of fragmented and inefficient data integration in AAS ecosystems by providing a central, standards-compliant point of contact for data providers and users. It enables fast, automated access to constantly updated information and ensures faster processes, higher data quality and reduced data management effort.
Furthermore, demonstrators developed in collaboration with various partners from the IDTA network illustrate the practical application of AAS in interaction with different standards, tools, applications and interfaces. IDTA and its partners thus address the core challenges of data access and exchange, illustrate technical interoperability and demonstrate the added value that AAS generates in practice. Specifically, the demonstrators show:
- Implementation of a common metamodel that combines AAS Submodels with OPC UA specifications for interoperability between different industrial systems
- Cross-company data exchange with the AAS, in which each step in the value chain is mapped by different tools that work together seamlessly via central registry and discovery services
- The role of the AAS as a fundamental data structure for use cases in almost all sub-projects of the Manufacturing-X initiative and the realisation of an open data ecosystem
- Simple, standards-based data exchange across organisational boundaries with all the advantages of sovereign exchange in a data space
- Seamless and standardised collaboration in the real-world use case of Product Change Notifications (PCN) for efficient engineering with various component manufacturers
- A cross-industry pilot project for improved collaboration along the supply chain, from component suppliers to product designers to machine builders, for faster market launches, improved quality and fewer errors
Live at the stand in hall 5, ten co-exhibitors – Codewerk, D&TS, M&M Software, Neoception, Objective Partner, PTC, SAP, Siemens, Soffico and XITASO – will also be showcasing their individual AAS solutions and how they meet the requirements of industrial practice.
Numerous further exhibitors at SPS will be showcasing the standardised Digital Twin in industrial implementation. IDTA’s AAS Guide lists 42 exhibits that showcase a wide variety of tools and applications and demonstrate the industrial maturity of AAS. The AAS Guide will be available as a printed version at the IDTA stand and can here be accessed digitally in advance. In addition, experts will be giving numerous presentations to provide information and discuss the Digital Twin and AAS. The AAS Guide provides a compact overview of the relevant presentations.
