IDTA and ZVEI aim to push forward the Asset Administration Shell
75 companies want to implement Asset Administration Shell (AAS) quickly. AAS lays the technical foundation for further digitalisation in the industry.
Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) and ZVEI want to rapidly advance the adoption of the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) in industry. Both organisations have launched an industry-wide initiative to this end. 75 companies from electrical and digital industries are already supporting the project and have declared their intention to integrate the AAS into their technologies and products within approximately twelve months. The initiators are now calling on companies from all sectors to sign the letter of intent likewise.
“The Asset Administration Shell is a crucial foundation for the further digitisation of the industry,” emphasises ZVEI President Dr Gunther Kegel. “It creates a common, global data language for all systems and assets. Only with such a technical basis can we further develop industrial data ecosystems in which information flows interoperably. This also makes the AAS a key lever for enabling industrial AI to realise its huge potential.”
“IDTA is committed to ensuring broad access to the AAS for various target groups,” explains Christian Mosch, Managing Director of IDTA. “Companies are already using the AAS successfully, and previous use cases show that consistently standardised data exchange processes lead to faster decision-making, greater efficiency and lower default risks throughout the entire product life cycle. With this declaration of intent, we are bringing further partners on board to jointly create a resilient value chain.”
The AAS describes machines, systems, products and services in a standardised manner. It enables industrial software to interpret their data, thereby connecting the worlds of IT and OT in production. The AAS thus lays a central semantic foundation for digital industrial applications, from digital twins to AI agents, which permeate all value-added processes and support production in planning, control and analysis.
