IDTA and FEDERTEC formalise their collaboration
An ideal partnership to advance industrial automation in the global industry
The German user organisation Industrial Digital Twin Association e.V. (IDTA), which develops standards for Digital Twins for the entire industry, and the association FEDERTEC, which represents companies in the field of fluid power, mechanical power transmission and automation of industrial processes in Italy, have agreed to partner up. Both organisations have now signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining their cooperation on exchanging expertise and bundling competences. The members of the two cooperation partners are highly engaged in standardising digitisation projects at the international level and cover a broad variety of industries. The partnership is therefore ideally positioned to advance industrial automation and meet global challenges of technological innovation.
IDTA and FEDERTEC envisage a future collaboration to build and consolidate a successful global ecosystem for interoperable industrial Digital Twins and in particular the Asset Administration Shell (AAS). The following activities have been agreed:
- Elaboration of topics of interest for the close cooperation between both organisations.
- Exchange between representatives of both organisations at meetings and events.
- Participation in joint activities on selected topics.
- Harmonisation and cooperation in the provision of public information and materials.
- Joint promotional activities, such as joint press releases or mutual participation in respective events.
- Exchange of information and publications, as well as targeting common issues.
- Mutual reporting on the current status and coordination at management level to ensure that approaches are complementary and duplication of work is avoided.
An initial joint activity has already been agreed. In March 2025, a workshop is scheduled in which members of both organisations can participate, to exchange information on the use and benefits of the AAS.
Ing. Domenico Di Monte, Vice President at FEDERTEC says: “FEDERTEC aims to be a reference point for the power transmission and fluid power sector and a key interlocutor capable of engaging with companies, institutions and national and international associations to explore technological, industrial and market-related topics. We are very proud to begin this collaboration with IDTA, which aims to create a network that enhances the skills of our members, enabling them to seize opportunities related to the use of Digital Twins in the automation sector.“
Dr. Matthias Bölke, Chairman of the board at IDTA explains: “Our goal at IDTA is to establish the AAS for the entire life cycle of any asset in our industry and make it an international standard. Therefore, the international adoption is critical and we are partnering with more and more organizations in the industry worldwide. We are delighted to sign this collaboration with FEDERTEC, establishing a broad industry network across the Italian market, to promote the benefits of the AAS, to connect automation industry players with similar interests and to strengthen expertise in the Open Source technology. We look forward to the collaboration.”
