IDTA presents the practice-oriented and custom-fit implementation of the Digital Twin at the SPS

The Industrial Digital Twin Association e.V. (IDTA) will be present at this year’s SPS – Smart Production Solutions trade fair for the automation industry from November 8-10, 2022, in Nuremberg. In Hall 3 at Booth 450, IDTA is the first point of contact for the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), which provides all information of an asset over its entire life cycle and forms the basis for the implementation of the Digital Twin.

Guide to AAS exhibits

Two demonstrators at the booth show the use of the AAS for specific applications. The demonstrator for the use case “Energy Monitoring” showcases how the Digital Twin with standardized and semantically enriched AAS enables the acquisition of energy data without the need for engineering services, even when switching devices (More on this use case in a video in German). How a Digital Twin is quickly and easily created by scanning an ordinary business card is presented by the demonstrator “Create your Digital Nameplate”. A QR code on a physical nameplate allows access at any time to the Digital Twin, which is generated via standardized submodels.

Many further exhibits at the SPS show the customized use of the Digital Twin in different phases of the life cycle of a product or a machine. The AAS Guide leads to 27 exhibitors and their products, which demonstrate a wide variety of solutions using the AAS. The AAS Guide will be handed out as a printed version at the IDTA booth at the SPS and is digitally available in advance under this link.

The AAS on stage

Additionally, the conference program on the VDMA and ZVEI Technology Stage in Hall 3, Booth 451 offers informative lectures and opportunities for dialogue. Technical insights into the implementation of the Digital Twin will be provided by contributions from various experts. Andreas Orzelski, Phoenix Contact, will demonstrate the use of the AASX Package Explorer for a quick start into Industry 4.0 on November 9, 2022. In the live podcast on the Energy Monitoring Use Case on that same date, Dr. Dirk Thieme from Volkswagen and Meik Billmann from IDTA, moderated by Madeleine Mickeleit, IoT Use Case, will address the added value created by implementing standardized data models using the AAS in automotive manufacturing. Roland Dunker, R. STAHL, on November 10, 2022, will present the easy and quick approach to the Digital Twin in practice using the Digital Nameplate. The complete lecture program with all AAS relevant topics can also be found on the AAS-Guide.
