How the Digital Product Passport works in practice

The interactive demonstrator shows how information on various assets, including the product carbon footprint, is mapped along the entire value chain – from the manufacture of the component to its deployment in a machine and ongoing operation in the factory – and shared according to requirements enabled by the Asset Administration Shell.

Industrial Digital Twin Association

Regulation

The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) of the European Union requires the Digital Product Passport for sustainable and circular products.

Industrial Digital Twin Association

Transparency

The DPP must contain data on a product’s carbon footprint, recyclability and further product-specific information.

Industrial Digital Twin Association

Ecosystem

Data must be shared along the value chain – this affects component manufacturers, plant and machine manufacturers and ultimately also operators.

Industrial Digital Twin Association

Chances

Thanks to standardised procedures with the AAS, new business models are available by systematising access to a wide range of data.

DPP4.0 ready for the industrial implementation

The Asset Administration Shell is an international standard (IEC 63278). Complemented by the IDTA Specifications it defines the software structure, interface and semantics of the AAS and thus create the foundation for the standardized Digital Twin.
For a quick overview start with the Asset Administration Shell Reading Guide. This document acts as a guide by recommending selected „must-read” documents for different reader groups.
