The aim is to systematically incorporate the specific requirements of the semiconductor industry into the further development and implementation of AAS solutions, thereby strengthening interoperability across the value chain.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hub was initiated by Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA), the Chair of Information Management at Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTWD) and the Process-to-Order Group at Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the IDTA Research Hub Semiconductor, we are bringing together academic expertise and industrial practice to create a central point of contact for all questions relating to the industrial Digital Twin in the semiconductor industry,\u201d emphasises Prof. Dr Dirk Reichelt of HTW Dresden. \u201cOur aim is not only to explain AAS, but to make it directly tangible in real-world production and supply chain scenarios.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIDTA thrives on a strong ecosystem. Through the Research Hub, we are specifically strengthening the close integration between standardisation, research and the industrial application of AAS. Such partnerships are crucial for further developing the standard in a way that ensures interoperability and for systematically integrating industry-specific requirements. We highly value this close cooperation because it drives technological innovation and sustainably strengthens the link between the semiconductor industry and its user sectors,\u201d explains Dr Matthias B\u00f6lke, Chairman of the IDTA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key objectives of the IDTA Research Hub Semiconductor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus is on the AAS as the technical backbone of the industrial Digital Twin. The AAS is the standardised Digital Twin of a physical object, which provides all relevant information in a structured format so that data on machines, systems and companies can be mapped in a standardised way and made available across manufacturer and system boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whereas data was previously often scattered across different IT systems, the AAS consolidates this information into a unified structure. This enables systems from different manufacturers and companies to \u2018communicate\u2019 with one another without the need to programme bespoke solutions. It is precisely this interoperability that is considered a prerequisite for scalable Industry 4.0 applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hub aims to establish AAS across domains in both discrete and process-oriented manufacturing environments within the semiconductor industry, and to demonstrate its applicability in real-world production and supply chains. Research, teaching and practical demonstrators are intended to make the Digital Twin tangible and scalable for businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key objective is to open up the Dresden Learning Factories as a research platform for applied AAS solutions. In addition, cross-domain supply chain scenarios based on the Digital Product Passport are to be implemented, and a long-term research network is to be established with industry partners across the semiconductor industry\u2019s value chains, as well as downstream industries such as the chemical, automotive and mechanical engineering sectors. The hub sees itself as contributing to initiatives such as Manufacturing-X and aims in particular to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the introduction of AAS-based solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Concrete steps and initial demonstrators<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step involves creating a hands-on AAS showcase for semiconductor applications in the automotive sector. The focus is on use cases relating to fine and specialty chemicals, which play a key role in the industry. The demonstrator is complemented by modular \u201cAAS Experience Labs\u201d, which provide interactive insights ranging from modelling to integration into production and supply chain processes. Plans also include a dedicated website, regular specialist events, and access to information materials and learning workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Asset Administration Shell will be a key component of digital value creation, from chemicals and wafers right through to vehicle assembly,\u201d explains Prof. Dr Leon Urbas of TU Dresden. \u201cWith the IDTA Research Hub Semiconductor, we are creating a platform where success stories and lessons learnt can be openly shared.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hub is therefore intended not only to bring together research, but also to serve as a platform for the exchange of experience, transparency and cross-sector learning. Particular emphasis is placed on embedding the AAS within research and education, so that future specialists and managers can become familiar with the industrial Digital Twin at an early stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Call for contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the hub is issuing a clear call for participation to industry, research institutions and technology providers.
